KAZIMIERZ SLIWA

I am currently a post doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany working with Dr. Eva Schinnerer.
My research consists of studying the molecular gas content in local star forming galaxies. I use high-resolution interferometric observations from world class telescopes such as ALMA, SMA and NOEMA implementing the all important short spacings correction using single dish observations to probe the physical properties of the molecular gas.

My Research

ISM Enrichment in Starbursts

Since the early 1990's, observations have shown that 13CO is extremely weak in emission when compared to 12CO, more than what we have observed in our Galaxy.

With the ALMA era upon us and the upgrades to the NOEMA and SMA, GMC-scale observations have become more routine.

Luminous Infrared Galaxies with the Submillimeter Array

Luminous Infrared Galaxies in the local universe are major starburst systems.
